Jean M. Newbury

“Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Sister”

Jean M. Newbury, 81, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at her daughter’s residence, surrounded by her loving family, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on February 23, 1931 in Indian Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Carl Allyn and the late Leora (Waterson) Allyn Mohr.

Mrs. Newbury attended local schools. On January 10, 1948, Jean married Jesse Newbury. He predeceased her on January 27, 2000. She worked as a switchboard operator for the former New York Telephone Company and Airco Speer. Later, Mrs. Newbury worked in the cafeteria at Errick Road Elementary School. Jean also served as Town Supervisor for the Town of West Clarksville from 1981 until 1984. She was a member of the VFW Post #2721 Ladies Auxiliary in Cuba, NY since 1988 as well as a member of the St. Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary since 1961.

Mrs. Newbury is survived by two children, Linda (Robert) Lehr of the Town of Niagara, NY and Danny (Darlene) Newbury of Limestone, NY; seven grandchildren, Samuel (Kathy) Lehr of Lewiston, NY, Tamara (James) Bellreng of Lewiston, NY, Jessica (John) Dougherty of Indianapolis, IN, Erricka (Brian) Jones of Indianapolis, IN, Steven Parsons of Limestone, NY, Victoria Newbury of Huston, TX and Katie Newbury of Limestone, NY and fifteen great-grandchildren, Shelby and BayLee Lehr, Samuel and Lisa Bellreng, Holly (Mike) Placek, Sarah (Jon) Mercer, Justin, Jarid and Mikayla Suchyna, Jesi, Brandon, Kody, Andreja and Kali Jones and Bella Parsons. Jean is also survived by two brothers, William (Rita) Mohr of Latham, NY and Donald (Carol) Mohr of Newfane, NY; one sister, Judith Allyn of Cheektowaga, NY; one brother-in-law, Milton (Audrey) Newbury of Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (late Walter) Newbury of Niagara Falls, NY and Jean (late William) Newbury of Pennsylvania and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by many brothers and sisters-in-law.

The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007) where a funeral service will be held on Friday, June 29th at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Pat Fleming officiating. Prayers of committal will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
