Michael 'Mike' E. Greenawalt, Sr.

Michael E. Greenawalt, Sr., 57, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away, unexpectedly, on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, NY. Born on September 14, 1955 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Robert R. and Ruth (Suters) Greenawalt.

Mr. Greenawalt was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. Mike, as he was known by family and friends, served in the United States Army, while stationed in Korea, until his honorable discharge on March 15, 1974. During the 1970’s, he worked at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Mr. Greenawalt was also employed by the City of Niagara Falls, where he worked in the Public Works Department, until his retirement in the late 1990’s. On March 19, 1988, Mike married the former Grace M. Licastro in Niagara Falls, NY. He enjoyed spending time with his “extended family” at Niagara Woodland Campgrounds, golfing, playing horse shoes, playing cards and family gatherings.

In addition to his beloved wife, Grace, Mr. Greenawalt is survived by three children, Stacey Regan, Heidi Greenawalt and Michael E. (Jennifer) Greenawalt, Jr. all of Niagara Falls, NY; three step-sons, Richard Hurtt, Paul Hurtt and Robert Hurtt all of Niagara Falls, NY and nine grandchildren. Mike is also survived by eight siblings, Patricia (Carl) Eade of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, Brenda (Danny) Gordon of Youngstown, NY, Richard (Wendy) Greenawalt of Grand Island, NY, Sharon (Peter) Pullano of the Town of Niagara, NY, Judy (Robert) Roulley of Niagara Falls, NY, Daniel (Tammy) Greenawalt of Niagara Falls, NY, Glenn (Taryle) Greenawalt of Niagara Falls, NY and Steven Greenawalt of Niagara Falls, NY; one brother-in-law, Mario (Lorraine) Licastro of Niagara Falls, NY; three sisters-in-law, Kathleen Stancomb, Frances Snyder and Barbara (late Joseph) Licastro all of Niagara Falls, NY and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday, January 5th from 1-4 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007) where a funeral service will follow visitation at 4:00 p.m. with Rev.
