Garlen B. Stoneman, 91, of North Tonawanda, NY, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015 in Niagara Hospice House, following a brief illness. Born on November 13, 1923 in Hemphill, WV, he was the son of the late Ingram Boyd Stoneman and Lily (Alley) Stoneman.

Garlen attended Carey High School in his hometown of Gary #7, West Virginia. He worked in the coal mines in W.V. for US Steel. In 1944 Garlen moved to Philadelphia to work for Pittsburgh Pipe as an Environmental Cleaner that brought him to Niagara Falls, NY in 1947, where he was employed for Hooker Chemical for 35 years. During his time at Hooker, Garlen started his own company that began with Wizard Method, Inc. from 1969-1989 as well as HWS Leasing from 1980-1989. THE WIZARD METHOD COMPANY EVENTUALLY BECAME THE CURRENT NATIONAL VACUUM CORP, OWNED AND OPERATED BY JOHN KOZLOWSKI, SR. AND STILL MAINTAINS 10 OF THE ORIGINAL WIZARD METHOD EMPLOYEES. Retiring in 1989, Garlen went on to spending winters in Florida, where he enjoyed golfing and the sunshine. He will be forever missed by all who knew him and will be remembered for being dedicated to his companies. Garlen was a very generous man and was well liked by all of his employees.

Garlen is survived by his daughter, LouAnn Davenshire of North Tonawanda, NY. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Tiona DeShong, Erin Friedhaber, Jon Friedhaber, Jonathan Stoneman and Jeffrey Stoneman; four great-grandchildren, Madison, Persephonie, Meadow and Chase; two sisters, Joanne Day and Bonnie Barch and several nieces and nephews. Garlen was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Louise J. Stoneman; his life partner, Doris Griffin; one son, Jerry Dale Stoneman and siblings, Thurman Stoneman, Erma Church, Stella Rutledge, Avellie Sigler, Gladys French and Patricia Lambert.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007) where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Acacia Park Cemetery, North Tonawanda, NY.
