Vernon Markant Life story

Vernon Henry Markant, age 81, was received into the arms of his loving Savior on April 6, 2024.  Vernon was born in Linden, NJ to Rev. Frederick and Evelyn (Tetlus) Markant on July 1, 1942.  On August 6, 1966, he married Beverly (Waldheim) Markant.

Vernon was a wonderfully loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and above all served his Lord and Savior with every fiber of his being.  He was employed by E I DuPont de Nemours in Niagara Falls as a Chemical Engineer for 57 years, and upon his retirement held various jobs in local businesses including a contract position with the University of Buffalo.  When he moved with his wife to Niagara Falls in 1968, they began attending First Assembly of God, now named The Bridge Assembly of God, church where he was a life-long member and served as a Sunday School teacher, Trustee, Board Member, Royal Ranger commander, and went on to serve as Western Section Commander for the NY Ministry Network for Royal Rangers.  Vernon dearly loved leading young people and old to Christ and was the truest example of what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ in his family, community, and church.

Anyone who met him usually found him working with his hands and using his gifts to serve others, giving rides to those in need, or sharing his love of the outdoors with anyone who would join him.  He was an avid fisher, enjoyed hiking the Adirondacks, camping with his family, and tinkering with various cars in his driveway.  Vernon’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife of 58 years, and his family.

Vernon was predeceased by his father, mother and older brother, the late Rev. Frederick Markant Jr.  He is survived by his wife, Beverly; 4 children, Jeff Markant, Kristen Guidotti, Deborah (Erik) Nowakowski, and Kimberly (James) Fiegl; his daughter in love, Michele Markant; 14 Grandchildren, Brandon (Rebecca) Markant, Ashley (fiance Erik Del Forn) Markant, Morgan Markant, Jeffrey Markant Jr., Jackson Markant, Larissa (Ben) Kubiak, Kaitlyn Fiegl, Jacob Markant, Ryan Nowakowski, Hunter Fiegl, Jason Nowakowski, Brooklynn Markant, Emma Fiegl, and Kassidy Fiegl; and 3 Great-Grandchildren, Amberlee Markant, Mila Markant and Tage Markant.  He is also survived by his brother, David (MaryEllen) Markant of Rochester, NY, his sister-in-law Gloria (Frederick) Markant of Springfield, MO, and his nephews, nieces, and many cousins.

A time for family and friends to gather for visitation will be on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007).  Vernon's funeral service and life celebration will take place at The Bridge Assembly of God, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in their fellowship hall.
