Alan “Jay” Wicks, 64, of the Village of Lewiston, passed from this life suddenly on Sunday, May 5, 2019, following a brief illness. Born on April 1, 1955 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Henry and Helen (Barry) Wicks. On November 14, 1981, Jay, as he was known to family and friends, married Cheryl L. Duncan.
Jay was a lifelong area resident and attended Niagara Falls Public Schools. He proudly served in the United States Army, active duty, stationed in Germany, from June 29, 1973 until his honorable discharge on June 19, 1976. Jay then entered the reserves, retiring as a Drill Sergeant on January 15, 1999. In 1977, he began working for Pyron and retired in 2017 as a maintenance supervisor. Jay was a member of the LaSalle Sportsmen’s Club and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jay is survived by siblings, Joanne (Terry) McCartney, Paula (John) Pitarresi, Katrina (David) Lingenfelter and David Heughan and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn Dale.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where Jay’s funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, May 10th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Laura Norris-Buisch officiating, concluding with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
