Alexander Charles MacVie, 83, of Niagara Falls NY, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at his residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on April 10, 1935 in Welland, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Andrew Jamieson and Elizabeth (Morrison) MacVie.
Charles came to Niagara Falls as a child with his family and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He proudly served in the United States Army.
He worked for 14 years at Certo Bros and went on to owning several of his own businesses. In 1976 he worked for the city of Niagara Falls and retired after 20 years of service. Shortly after he once again formed his own contracting business.
Charles enjoyed golfing, traveling and was an avid follower of hockey and NFL football. He was always available to lend a helping hand to his family and friends.
Charles is survived by his wife of 50 years Janet (Lowman) MacVie, daughter Marcy MacVie, sister-in-laws Nancy Dell and Marie Gray. Also many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins who fondly called him Uncle Chuck. He was predeceased by his son, Scott and brother, Andrew.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 2nd, from 3-7pm at OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME where funeral services will begin on Tuesday, July 3rd at 10:15am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St Raphael Parish, 3840 Macklem Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Ivan Skenderovic serving as celebrant. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY, concluding with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to The American Legion John J. Welch Post #381 or to Niagara Hospice.
