Mr. David William Higby, 88, of the Town of Niagara, NY, and Lakeland, FL, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, while residing in Arizona to be closer to his daughter and son. Born on October 30, 1930 in Allegany, NY, he was the son of Theodore and Edith (Smith) Higby.
Dave proudly served in the United States Air Force, during the Vietnam War and later in the United States Air National Guard at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base, retiring as a highly decorated veteran in 1988, after 34 years of dedicated service. While serving Dave worked as an Aircraft Hydraulic Technician and eventually served as the 1st SGT for the 107th Fighter Interceptor Group. He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, worshiping at the St. Leo’s worship site.
Dave is survived by his daughter Marian (Richard) Groeneveld, son David (Sharon) Higby, son-in-law Ernest Pasquale, and daughter-in-law Betsy Higby; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; his brother Robert, and several nieces, nephews and cousins; longtime companion, Louise Lynch; step-children, Patricia (Carl) Saph and Kelly (James) Gatto; 10 step-grandchildren; and 9 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dave was predeceased by his loving wife of 21 years in 1972, Alicia (Stayer) Higby; children, Theodore Higby and Linda Pasquale and step-children, Lorie Lynch and Wayne Lynch.
The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday, from 4-8 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. David’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 18th at 10:00 a.m., concluding with Military Honors, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, St. Leo’s Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment will be held privately on Friday in Allegany Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Michael R. Goodlander.
