Evelyn M. (Stewart) Belden

Evelyn M. (Stewart) Belden, 93, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Heathwood Assisted Living.  Born on June 17, 1924 in Brockway, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Jane (Harvey) Stewart.  

On May 7, 1949, Evelyn married DeVere LaMar “Jerry” Belden.  He predeceased her on December 19, 2010.  She was employed as a clerk for Western Union in Niagara Falls, NY.  Evelyn was a congregant of St. James United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for forty years.  She also was a former Niagara County Chairperson for the Girl Scouts and a cook for Niagara Falls Meals-on-Wheels for ten years.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Brenda (George) Pope of Lewiston; grandchildren, Lauren (late Jeromye) Rogers of Virginia and Kevin Pope of North Tonawanda; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Hunter Rogers; nieces, Pamela (Paul) Stivers and Cindy (late Jack) Stewart; a nephew, John (Janice) Wolfgang and several great-nieces and great-nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Helen (late Charles) Stewart Wolfgang. 

Prayers of Committal and interment will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m. in Riverdale Cemetery, with Pastor Matt Kofahl officiating.  If desired memorial offerings may be made to Upper Mountain Volunteer Fire Company or St. James United Methodist Church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Michael R.
