Helen M. (Andrews) Sweeney, 82, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed from this life on Friday, September 20, 2019, while staying at Niagara Hospice House. Born on December 15, 1936 in Somerville, MA, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Blanche (Collins) Andrews.
Helen came to Niagara Falls with her family in 1941 and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1954. For 30 years, immediately following high school, at the age of 17, she began working for GMAC as a collections agent, until her retirement at the age of 47 in 1984. In 1984, Helen married John H. Sweeney, who predeceased her on April 26, 2011. Her and John moved to Oneida Lake and later to Winter Haven, Fl. Upon his passing, Helen retired to the Town of Niagara. She was a longtime and devoted volunteer for The Niagara County SPCA, sharing her love and affection with the boarded cats. Helen enjoyed shopping, dining out and keeping busy with her family and friends.
Helen is survived by sisters, Barbara (late Phillip) Graff and Shirley Andrews; a step-son, Michael (Kathy) Sweeney; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a step-son, Patrick Sweeney.
A private committal service and interment was held in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery.
