Ida Geraldine (Dalgleish) Sparling

Ida Geraldine (nee Dalgleish) Sparling, also known as “Gerry” to her family and friends and in her younger years, “Chinaware”, age 90, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away, unexpectedly, on Friday, December 1, 2017 in Mount St. Mary’s Hospital.  Born on March 14, 1927 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Ruth (LaRocque) Dalgleish. 

Mrs. Sparling was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1945.  On September 21, 1946, Ida married Gordon Sparling.  Mr. Sparling predeceased her on September 12, 2006.  She served as a Girl Scout Leader  and council member for many years and she loved people.  When Ida would see someone in need, she assisted in any way that she could.  Mrs. Sparling was an avid reader and gardener and enjoyed sewing, knitting and bowling.

Mrs. Sparling is survived by her children, Russell (Karen) Sparling, Deborah “Debi” (James) Seufert, Bruce Sparling, Mildred “Millie (late Jess) McDivitt and Gordon (Karin) Sparling, Jr.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her parents and husband, Ida joined her granddaughter in heaven, Jessica McDivitt and her sister, Mildred (late Sheldon) Barlow.

The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 6th at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Laura Norris-Buisch officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
