James P. MacNeil, 79, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 16, 1939 in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Findlay and Jean MacNeil. On September 23, 1989, he married the former JoAnne Hermanson.
Mr. MacNeil was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Jim, as he was know to family and friends, proudly served in the United States Army from January 8, 1959, until his honorable discharge on March 8, 1962. He began his career in law enforcement working for the New York State Park Police and retired in the early 1990’s as a New York State Trooper. Following his retirement, Mr. MacNeil the was employed by Modern Disposal for 17 years. Jim loved spending quality time with his family.
In addition to his wife, JoAnne, Mr. MacNeil is survived by children, Paul (Diane) MacNeil, David (Jennifer Reed) MacNeil, Kathy (Joseph Goraj) Shaw, James (Diane Roy) Barnes, Laura Fantrazo, Michael (Lisa) MacNeil and Paul Barnes; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his best friend, Dave (Tammy) Zimmer and his cherished dog, Nevin. He was predeceased by a brother, Norman (Helena) MacNeil and a sister, Janett (late Al) Bennett.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 2nd from 4-8 p.m., concluding with Military Honors, in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Mr. MacNeil graciously donated his body to the University at Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice.
