Melvin A. Ricker was born on August 10, 1917 in Wilson, NY. On December 24, 2019 at the age of 102, he peacefully went home to be with his Lord.
He grew up in Ransomville, NY and was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School in 1936. He married Norma Robida on October 15, 1938 and they were blessed with four children. Melvin lived a life of service to others, beginning with the United States Navy, on the Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier. In his early days of employment, he was busy climbing the ladders of industry, banking and business. Melvin owned Ricker Real Estate and Insurance and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years.
In retirement he volunteered for 25 years at Niagara Memorial Medical Center and provided transportation to patients receiving care at Roswell Park for the American Cancer Society. He was also a faithful worshiper at the Forestview Church of God.
Surrounded by his loving family, he is survived by his sons, Richard (Carole), Robert (Mary Ann), James (Linda) and Paul (Lynn). Melvin was also blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Melvin was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Myrtle (Kaiser) Ricker; siblings, Doris, Marie, Kenneth and Althea, and his wife, Norma (on February 8, 1992).
Visitation will be on Monday, December 30, 2019 from 10 am –12:00 Noon in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road Niagara Falls, NY. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 Noon at the same location, with Melvin’s son, Rev. Richard M. Ricker officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Cold Springs Cemetery in Lockport NY. His family wishes to thank the staff at Elderwood Skilled Nursing Facility in Wheatfield, NY and memorials can be made to Niagara Hospice. Arrangements are under the care of Michael R. Goodlander.
