Shirley Richner Life story

Shirley A. (nee Hammer) Richner, 81, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed from this life on Sunday, March 11, 2018, in Buffalo General Medical Center, while surrounded by her loving family.  Born on October 12, 1936 in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mildred (Kumro) Hammer.  In April of 1959, Shirley married Jimmy Richner.

Mrs. Richner was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.  Shirley was very instrumental in the two family businesses her and her husband operated.  At the former Jimmy’s American, located in Tonawanda, she towed vehicles and managed the finances.  Upon the closing of Jimmy’s American, Mrs. Richner, being intricate in the opening of the Jetport Restaurant in the Town of Niagara, joined her husband in the day-to-day operations, in all aspects of the business; from hostess, bartender and waitress, to name a few.  Up until her passing, Shirley was the “backbone” of the restaurant.

Mrs. Richner leaves behind a legacy of being a strong woman, love for her family and hard work. Shirley was the “glue” that held it all together.  Managing four men, her husband and sons, was a challenging task at times.  In her spare time, she enjoyed to travel, play bingo and go to the casino.

In addition to her beloved husband, Jimmy, of over 58 years, Mrs. Richner is survived by her loving sons, Ricky (Marcie) Richner, Randy Richner and Ronny (Susan) Richner; her grandchildren, Kyle, Aaron, John, Chase, Tina, Lauren, Alexa and Brooke Richner and her great-grandchild, Giovanni. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by all of her siblings.

The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday, March 14th from 4-8 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in her name to the American Lung Association.
