Theodore James Zawada

Theodore James Zawada, 73, of the Town of Lewiston, NY, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, while staying at Buffalo General Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.  Born on October 9, 1945 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Theodore John and Flora (Franaszek) Zawada.  On September 1, 1979, Ted, as he was known to family and friends, married the former Deborah Stickney.

Mr. Zawada was a lifelong area resident, attended local schools and graduated from Bishop Duffy High School.  Ted later earned his Masters Degree in Public Administration from Niagara University.  He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, during the Vietnam War, until his honorable discharge on June 17, 1969.  Mr. Zawada was employed as a Therapist for the Department of Veterans Affairs, working at the Buffalo VA Medical Center.  Ted was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Marine Corps League as well as the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).  He was an avid Notre Dame Football Fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading.  Above all, he was deeply devoted to his family.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Zawada is survived by children, Theodore Vincent (Christine) Zawada, Peter Joseph (Katherine) Zawada, Samuel H. (Marjorie) Zawada, David Michael (Angela) Zawada and Rachel S. (Cory) Clark and was predeceased by a son, Matthew Zawada.  Ted is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Victoria, Madeline, Amber, Joseph, Emily, Thomas, Bridget, Isabella, Adalynn, Dominic, Charlie and Vinny and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 25th, from 12-4 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where Ted’s funeral service, concluding with Military Honors, will be held at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Father Jim Bastian officiating.  Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to a Veterans Charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are under the direction of Michael R.
