Vincent Chiaravalle (NFFD Ret.) Life story

Vincent S. Chiaravalle (NFFD Ret.), 86, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Niagara Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.  Born on May 5, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Amelia (Amendola) Chiaravalle.  On January 8, 1955, he married the former Dorothy L. Laurie in St. Patrick’s Church, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

 

Mr. Chiaravalle was a lifelong area resident.  Vincent attended local schools, graduated from LaSalle High School and earned his EMT certification from Niagara County Community College.  PFC, Vincent S. Chiaravalle proudly served in the United States Army, during the Korean War, from November 17, 1952 until his honorable discharge as a Chief Radio Operator on October 23, 1954.  Mr. Chiaravalle was released from his reserve obligation on November 1, 1960.  While serving, Vincent was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.  In 1965, he began his career as a firefighter with the Niagara Falls Fire Department.  After serving faithfully, Mr. Chiaravalle retired as Battalion Chief in 1994.

 

Mr. Chiaravalle and his wife were founding members and continued communicants of Prince of Peace Church, where Vincent was active on the Holy Name Society.  He was a 4th degree knight of The Knights of Columbus Council #247, a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society, the American Legion and the Retired Firefighters Association.  Mr. Chiaravalle enjoyed spending the colder months with his wife in Florida, bowling, golfing and working on home improvements.  Above all, Vincent loved spending time with his grandchildren and being around friends and family.

 

In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Chiaravalle is survived by children, Diane (Richard) Huntington, Paul V. (Sandra) Chiaravalle, Sr. and Jim (Kelly) Chiaravalle; grandchildren, Alan (Heidi), Mark (Stacey) and Daniel (Stacey) Huntington, Catherine (Caleb) Craft, Paul V. Chiaravalle, Jr., Mary, Joseph, Nicholas and Vincent Chiaravalle and Brian Younger; great-grandchildren, Emma, Samuel, Charlotte and one expected great-grandchild; his sister, Sr. Marie Vincent, O.S.F. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to his parents, Vincent was predeceased by siblings, Anthony (Muriel) Chiaravalle and Adeline (late John) Martin.

 

Visitation will be on Friday, May 10th from 4-7 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 11th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH.  Prayers of committal and inurnment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY, concluding with Military Honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Arrangements are under the direction of Michael R.
