Wayne Edwards

Wayne Edwards, 76, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away after a battle with Parkinson's disease on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, while surrounded by his loving family.  Born on March 14, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Rose (Furnary) Edwards.  On September 7, 1963, he married the former Linda Govern.

Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962 and served during the Vietnam War, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, after which he was granted an honorable discharge in 1966.  He was extremely proud to be an American and let everyone know it.

Wayne was employed as an auto mechanic, working for several area dealerships.  He also owned and operated his own Sunoco station at one time.  Wayne was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Buffalo Sabres. He shared his passion for cars, airplanes and history with anyone who would listen.  Wayne also liked to take pictures and being a part of them and spending time outdoors in the sunshine.  He will be remembered by his children and grandchildren for his unique sense of humor that was with him until the end.  Above all, Wayne loved spending his time with family, who affectionally called him “Poppy/Papa.”

In addition to his wife of 55 years, Wayne is survived by daughters, Deborah (Scott) Gardner and Denise (John) Allen; grandchildren, Christina (Josh) Magnuson, Anthony Gardner and Samantha and Christina Allen and great-grandchildren, Ella and Easton Magnuson.  He is also survived by siblings, Terrance (Leslie) Edwards, Katella (John) Dulmage, Barbara (Steve) Mackowicki and David (Sandy) Edwards and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 8th at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Father Robert Hughson officiating.  Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, concluding with Military Honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the Niagara Falls Firefighters Toy Fund, P.O.
