David J. Homiszczak, also known as ‘Detroit Dave’, 75, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on May 17, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his loving family, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on December 30, 1949 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Gregory and Monica (Prygon) Homiszczak.
David received his Masters Degree from Florida State University. He retired from West Seneca Developmental Center as a Psychiatric Social Worker, after over 30 years of service. David enjoyed attending Niagara University basketball games and playing cards. He was a loving and devoted Dziadzi who spent a good part of his retirement years caring for his grandchildren and traveling across the world, as far a South Africa, to be with his family.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Marian (Sczepczenski) Homiszczak; children, Adam (Melinda), Daniel (Melody) and Peter Homiszczak; grandchildren, Mara, Makayla, Ireland and Owen; one sister, Victoria (Walter, PhD) Polka and several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
All are welcome to gather for visitation on Wednesday, from 3-7 p.m., at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME AND NIAGARA COUNTY CREMATION CARE, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007). David’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 22nd, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Cataract Church, 259 4th Street, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Jacek Mazur serving as celebrant. Everyone please assemble at the church. Prayers of committal and interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice.
