Dominic DeFazio

August 7, 1921 ~ August 8, 2024 (age 103) 103 Years Old

Dominic DeFazio Life story

Dominic DeFazio, age of 103, passed away on August 8, 2024.  Born on August 7, 1921 in Walston, PA, he was the son of Italy immigrants, the late Giovanni DeFazio and the late Philomena (Aiello) Yorio.  On September 15, 1946, he married Virginia R. Peden.  She predeceased him on April 8, 2016.

Dominic attended schools in Pennsylvania, came to Niagara Falls in the 1960’s and then spent some time in California, returning in 1986.  He proudly served in the United States Navy, during World War II, from July 26, 1944 until his honorable discharge on March 10, 1945. Dominic was employed as salesman and department manager for Sears.  He also worked for Raymour & Flanigan.  Dominic later obtained his real estate license, working for Hunt Realty and Realty USA, finally retiring in 2010. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Niagara Falls, active as an elder, sang in the choir and served as a lay preacher.  Most recently, Dominic was attending Colonial Village Church.  He loved music.  He and his late wife wrote many songs together.

Dominic is survived by children, Robert DeFazio, Dominic J. (Annelie) DeFazio, Cheryl (Dennis) Gleason and Mark DeFazio; grandchildren, Jessica Layman, Peter, Michelangelo (Kim), Christopher, Elida and Lara DeFazio, Ryan (Crystal) and Stephen Gleason, Sarah (Anthony) Rizzo and Francesca (Matteo) Marmugi; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces nephews and cousins.  Besides his parents and spouse he was predeceased by his siblings and a great-grandchild.

All are invited to gather for visitation on Tuesday, from 3-7 p.m., at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007).  Dominic’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 14th, at 11:00 a.m., at Colonial Village Church, 4813 Kline Road, Niagara Falls, NY.  Friends invited.  Private interment in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined.  If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Special Capital Fund, c/o Colonial Village Church, 4813 Kline Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304 and/or Bell Tower Fund c/o First Presbyterian Church, 311 First Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303.
