Douglass Lyall Knack, 66, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on February 8, 2020 following a four year battle with stage four pancreatic cancer. Born on July 25, 1953 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Trenton L. and Isabel D. (Walker) Knack.
Doug as he was known, was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and attended local schools. He proudly served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War, until his honorable discharge in 1982. While serving and stationed in Germany, Doug met Rosemarie "Rosi" Krummlauf, whom he married on September 26, 1975 in Göppingen, Germany. Upon returning to Niagara Falls, he became a member of the Laborers Local #91. Doug then owned Knack's Rainbow Liquors in 1984 with his wife, until 1998. In 1999, they opened Knack's Parkview Cafe, where Doug and his family owned and operated the cafe to the present time. His patrons were like family to him and he was sure they felt the same. Doug enjoyed gardening, shopping on amazon.com and above all, spending time with his family.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff of Roswell Park (Military Road) and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, especially the 3rd floor and ICU staff.
In addition to his "honey" of over 44 years, Doug is survived by children, Lee L. (Christa) Knack, David D. (Denise) Knack and Sandra D. (Christopher) Winstel; grandchildren, Destiney, David, II, Alexis, Trenton and Brock; step-grandchildren that he treated like his own, Kasarah, Amanda, Christina, Aaliyah and Lexi; cousin, Cheri and other cousins and friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where Doug’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13th at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Sam Pulliam officiating. Prayers of committal and interment, concluding with military honors, will be held in North Ridge Cemetery. Family and friends invited.
