Elaine DeVantier Life story

Elaine S. (Farr) DeVantier, was called to her heavenly home on May 7, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 27,1926 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the eldest daughter of the late Forrest and Helen (Briggs) Farr. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1944, and was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls.  On October 16,1948, she married Edward R. DeVantier, Jr. at St James Methodist Church. Edward was called home in 2012.

Mrs. DeVantier was employed for over 30 years at several area businesses, retiring in 1988. After her retirement, she volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels of Niagara County, and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. She was a member of the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church for 75 years, where she was the most senior member. She was a charter member, past president and life member of the Wheatfield American Legion Post #1415 Auxiliary. Elaine enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crafts, travel, and quilting at the church. Elaine also enjoyed spending time with friends at the LaSalle Senior Center. Most importantly, Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons, Robert (Debra), Edward (Victoria), and Brian (Judy).  She leaves behind her six grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Bubel, Robert DeVantier, Jr., Christina (Matthew) Venditti, Nicole (Nicholas) Melson, and Trevor and Connor DeVantier, as well as her seven beloved great-grandchildren, Ronan, Gideon and Oren Abbondanza, Allison and Austin Bubel, and Franklin and Lillian Melson. Elaine is also survived by her sister, Nancy (late Donald) Tompkins; sister-in-law, Norma (late Loren) DeVantier, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Gail (late Thomas) Butlin.

The family would like to thank the staff of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center’s ICU Department, as well as Niagara Hospice in Lockport, for the care, guidance and support given to Elaine and our family.
