Emma Elizabeth (Carlson) Strough

Emma Elizabeth (nee Carlson) Strough, 81, of the Town of Niagara, passed peacefully from this life on June 12, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 3, 1939 in Ludlow, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Velma (nee Shaffer) Carlson. 

Mrs. Strough graduated from Eisenhower High School in Russell, PA and later from Niagara University in 1989 with her bachelors degree in nursing. Emma dedicated her life to helping others as a LPN at WCA Hospital in Jamestown,  Degraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda, then as a RN until her retirement from Niagara County Department of Health in 2001. She loved to garden, crochet, bake (especially peanut butter fudge, pecan pies and cookies) and taking walks around Goat Island. Mrs. Strough was very proud to go back to college and get her 4 year bachelors degree, which she completed just before her 50th birthday. In her younger years Emma bowled and played the piano and accordion. She was a current member of Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church. 

Survivors include her children, Catherine (late David) Bucher, Tammy (Dean) Brown, Karon Hubert, Sharon (David) Coulter and Ronald (Angela) Strough, Jr.; grandchildren, Christopher (Allison) Pike, Benjamin Pike, Deanna (Sean) Purdy, Janine Brown, Dean Brown, Allison Hubert, Aaron Coulter, Nicole Coulter, Shane (Justina) Strough, Rudy (Michelle) Wolfe and Savanna Strough; great-grandchildren, Kayley, Brandon, Emma, Nora, Merric, Tristan and Layne; a sister-in-law, Helen Carlson and several nieces and nephews. Emma was predeceased by five brothers, Arden (late Ellen), Doyle (late Rae), Roland (late Karen), Arvid and Sheldon Carlson and one infant sister, Donna Mae Carlson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 10th from 10-11am at Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church, 166 59th street, Niagara Falls, NY 14304, where a Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Friends invited. Interment will be private in Moriah Lutheran Cemetery, Ludlow, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice.
