Ernest Manera, Jr. Life story

Ernest Clarence Manera, Jr., 67, of Alden, NY, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on November 8, 2020, at Sisters of Charity Hospital.  Born on September 30, 1953 in Augsburg, Germany, he was the son of the late Ernest Clarence Manera, Sr. and the late Alice Ann (LeCount) Manera.

Ernest proudly served in the United States Navy from November 9, 1971 until his honorable discharge on December 12, 1973. Ernest was a Christ follower and disciple of Jesus Christ. He attended the Chapel at CrossPoint regularly and enjoyed volunteering in Kings World, especially working with the 4 year olds. He had a great love for ALL children!

While employed in the Health and Safety Department of General Motors, Lockport, NY, Ernest was responsible for Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics. He took his job very seriously.  He was driven to represent workers and always put their interests first.  Ernest always wanted the equipment to be operating properly and for all workers to be safe.  Everything he did, he did selflessly.

Ernest loved the outdoors, wildlife and enjoyed God’s creation, in his hobby of photography. He also loved to travel, bike, hike, and take care of the koi, bass, and grass carp in his pond and the birds that frequented his feeders.

Ernest had a passion for gardening; the perfect rose was his favorite flower.  He was meticulous with his property maintenance – always  working outside, mowing, pulling weeds, planting and harvesting. Ernest was a wonderful handyman and could fix anything. He liked to wear jeans along with a nice dress shirt and he loved “fine” food.

Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Linda Manera (Menshel) of Alden, NY; stepdaughter, Danielle McKay of Washington, DC; stepson, Shane McKay of Washington, DC; sisters, Christine Prandy (Lynn Ramsdell) of Fort Pierce, FL and Michelle Bruce (Scott) of Ransomville, NY; brother, Robert Manera (Lori) of Lockport, NY; nephews, John Prandy (Karri) of Storrs, CT;  Aaron Bruce of Ransomville, NY, Matthew Manera (Krystle) of Niagara Falls, NY and Gregory Manera (Jennifer) of Medina, NY; nieces, Jennifer Mix (Scott) of Fort Myers, FL, Morgan Bruce of Ransomville, NY and Ashley Manera of North Tonawanda, NY and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

A special church service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at The Chapel at CrossPoint, with Pastor Jerry Gillis officiating. Private interment at the Western New York National Cemetery, with Military Honors. Arrangements are under the care of Michael R.
