Florence B. Smith, 92, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, died peacefully, on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, with her children by her side. She was the widow of the late Edgar G. Smith and the the daughter of the late Andrew L. and Helen (nee Henhawk) Martin.
Mrs. Smith, affectionately known as Bubbles by her friends and family was born and raised in Niagara Falls, NY and was a 1947 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. She attended Niagara University. She was employed by the USAF, and served as Chief of Commercial Services and Materiel until the base began to downsize in 1970. She then transferred to the Social Security Administration and retired as Claims Representative in 1985 after 30 years of government service.
Her family was her life, and she enthusiastically supported the numerous musical and sports activities of her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews throughout her life. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, sewing, crocheting and reading. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post # 917. Mrs. Smith was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and was affectionately known as the “ team Grandma” for all her grandchildren’s sports teams.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Vincent (Buddy) Martin, Donald (Buzzy) Martin, Robert (Bobby) Martin; her sister, Eleanor (Boots) Barone and granddaughter, Tracey Smith. She is survived by her children, Helen (Wayne) Price, E. Glenn (Carol) Smith and Lois (James) Murphy; her grandchildren, Suzanne (Wade) Branstiter, Michael (Amy) Smith, Kerry (Michael) Hollon, Michelle Smith, William Smith, James (Traci) Murphy, Erin Murphy, Cindy (Michael) Kien, Jennifer (Ryan) Fries, Katherine (Ryan) Hewitt, and Bryan Smith. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007) on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 6-9 P.M. AND at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2759 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at 10A.M. with a funeral service to follow visitation at 11A.M. Interment at Riverdale Cemetery. Friends invited. Masks and social distancing will be required for your safety at all gatherings. Thank you for your support and understanding.
