Gerald F. Donovan, NFFD, Ret., also known as Jerry, of Niagara Falls, NY, age 89, passed away on July 24, 2024. Born on November 6, 1934 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late John and Laura (Halliday) Donovan. On May 4, 1957, Jerry married Geraldine A. Halter.
Jerry was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War, as well as the United States Air Force Reserves, being honorably discharged in July of 1957. Jerry was employed as a firefighter, rising through the ranks to battalion chief, for the City of Niagara Falls Fire Department and left retirement to briefly serve as chief in 2002. He was a member of Niagara Frontier Country Club and past member of the Kiwanis Club. Jerry enjoyed jogging, handball and golf.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jerry is survived by his triplets, Sheri (Randy Coleman) Finn, David Donovan and Dennis Donovan; grandchildren, Ellen (Rachel Blackey) Finn, Colbey (Alaina Jonathon) Finn, Patrick (Julia Brennen) Donovan, Brenna Donovan and Jillian Donovan; sister-in-law, Gloria Donovan and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Jack, Robert, Bill and Donald and sister, Mary.
All are welcome to gather for visitation on Saturday, July 27th, from 4-7 p.m., at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME AND NIAGARA COUNTY CREMATION CARE, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007). In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to a charity of one's choice.
