James Lee Carter, 72, of Lewiston, NY, passed from this life on September 18, 2021 at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY. Born on July 1, 1949 in Philipsburg, PA, he was the son of the late John Henry Carter and the late Edith (Hallabaugh) Carter.
James graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 1968 and later earned his Associates Degree from Niagara County Community College. PFC James Lee Carter proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, until his honorable discharge on May 1, 1975. For 35 years, he was employed by National Fuel. For 5 years, he was a football and wrestling coach for NWAA. James loved fishing and hunting.
James is survived by children, Ondrea Shaffer and James (Heather) Carter; several grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and his former wife and caregiver, Nola (Don) Woodcook. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his brother, Gene Carter.
The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday, September 25th from 1-2 p.m. with a life celebration and funeral service, with Military Honors, to follow at 2 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2759 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
