Joan (Szostak) Mitravich, 84, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024. She was the daughter of Alexander and Rosalia (Bartosz) Szostak and wife of the late John R. Mitravich.
Joan was a member of Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls and a 1957 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. Early in life, she worked as a secretary for DuPont and when she became an empty nester she enjoyed being a sales clerk and engraver for Firths Jeweler’s in Niagara Falls. Joan enjoyed traveling, gardening, trying her luck at the casino, ceramics, watching the Buffalo Bills, and attending stitch and bitch sessions with her sister and neighbor. She was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many with her kindness. Joan always shared the phrase "Keep Smiling" with everyone she met, serving as a positive and uplifting reminder to remain hopeful and happy, even in challenging times. Her loved ones will deeply miss her presence.
Joan is a survived by sons, John (Loa) of Waimanalo, HI, Daniel (Marie) of Niagara Falls, NY, and Michael (Jose) of Arlington, VA; as well as granddaughter, Macy (Patrick) Matthews of San Diego CA; grandsons, Daniel Steven of Niagara Falls NY and Matthew (Cara) of Erie, CO; great-granddaughter, Madelyn and great- grandson, Colby. She is also survived by her sister, Genevieve (late John) Kuca, and numerous nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Alex (Helen), Bruno (Mary), Walter, Stephen, John (Catherine) Szostak, and a sister, Helen (Steve) Kolano.
All are welcome to gather for visitation on Thursday, August 15th, from 4-7 p.m., at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME AND NIAGARA COUNTY CREMATION CARE, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007). Prayers of committal and interment will be held on Friday, August 16th, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Family and friends invited. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation, the Dementia Society of America, or Niagara Hospice.
