Joanne Bodman Life story

Joanne (Jaqua) Bodman, 101, passed from this life on April 28, 2022.  Born on May 4, 1920 in Spencer, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Paul E. And Dorotha (Allen) Jaqua.

Like many of her generation, Joanne was a war bride, having met her husband while they were both in high school and married four years later right after he graduated from the 'Naval Officer Preparatory Program and only two days before he reported to his ship where he was sent to fight in the Pacific theater. Upon his return from the war in 1945, they settled in Chicago where he worked at Moore Business Forms. His transfer to Niagara Falls began their lives here. Joanne made a home for them where they raised their three children. She began working at Carborundum in 1966 and remained there until her retirement. Following Glenn’s death in 2010, Joanne became a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church where she participated with the Riverside Workers. She served as president and in other capacities over many years for both Niagara Women’s Club and the Amethyst Mother’s Club, and was a member of the Hyde Park Garden Club and Castellani Arts Museum. Joanne cared patiently and lovingly for her husband Glenn in the difficult last years of his life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a creative and thoughtful homemaker, and an enthusiastic devotee of the arts and of beautiful gardens. She was ever-curious about the world and loved to travel. She and Glenn made many trips both overseas and to parts of the US and Canada.

Joanne is survived by her three children, Glenn (Vicki) Bodman of Honeoye Falls, NY, Carol (Scott) McRobbie of Colton, NY and Willow (Paul Bernstein) Bodman of Fairfax, VA; grandchildren, Jennifer (McRobbie) Miller, Michael McRobbie and Aaron Bernstein; and great grandchildren Nate and Noah Miller, Archer and Arlo McRobbie, and Aubrey Bernstein. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Bodman and sibling, Ruth Jaqua Madeira.

Joanne will be cremated and placed next to her husband, Glenn, in the niche at St. Joseph Cemetery in Niagara Falls. There will be a private celebration of her life at some time in the near future, to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, 1201 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, New York 14301.  Professional arrangements are under the care of the Goodlander family, OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007).
