John Charles Linc Kackmann, of Grand Island, New York, passed away on July 22, 2024, at the age of 79. Born in New York City, on February 12, 1945, he was the son of the late Fred and Adele (Degan) Kackmann. He was the cherished husband of Jeredith Ann (Peterson) Kackmann.
Mr. Kackmann attended George Washington High School in New York City and graduated in 1962. He attended Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, where he met his future wife, Jeri. he graduated in 1966 with a BA in Economics.
In 1967 Mr. Kackmann joined the Army. He graduated from Officer’s Candidate School as an Ordinance Officer. While stationed at Fort Story, Virginia, he assumed command of the 558th Transportation Company. When discharged from the Army in 1969, Mr. Kackmann was a 2nd Lieutenant. After the Army, Mr. Kackmann joined M&T Bank in 1969 where he was often referred to as “Mr ATM” by people with whom he worked because he nurtured M&T’s fledgling ATM System, continuing to build, update and expand the system until he retired as Vice President in 2007.
Mr. Kackmann is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeredith Kackmann; his niece, Ellen Kackmann; cousins Sophiedell (Harry—deceased) Underwood. of Chester, Maryland; and, Joann (Dennis) Marine of Snow Hill, Maryland; and The Orefice Family: sister-in-law Laurie (Marty); nephews Bill, John (Stefani), Nick (Amy), Tony (Courtney); and their respective children Erynn and Mitchell, Elliott and Levi, Brooklyn and Laci, and Mason and Cole.
Mr. Kackmann was predeceased by his brother, Fred Kackmann, who passed away August 11, 2018.
An avid traveler, Mr. Kackmann was constantly searching for new and exciting places to visit, eventually traveling to six continents.
A first generation German-American, John enjoyed preparing his father’s extraordinary delicatessen recipes and sharing them with his friends and family, to whom he also so loved to tell tall tales and make them laugh.
All are welcome to gather for visitation on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 11:00am-1:00pm at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME AND NIAGARA COUNTY CREMATION CARE, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, New York, followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm. Burial, with Military Honors, will be held immediately following the service, at Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, 5871 Military Road, Lewiston, New York.
