John David Swindlehurst

John David Swindlehurst, 62, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 in Absolut of Gasport.  Born on August 13, 1955 in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Elwood and Mary (Jones) Swindlehurst.  

John was a 35 year employee of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and his love and devotion was apparent to all who had the privilege of working with him.

John was a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan and avid Buffalo Sabres fan.  He also loved the Oakland A’s baseball team.  John was known for his collection of jerseys for all three teams.  He umpired for local baseball teams, was a longtime member of the hospital bowling team and loved to garden.

“Uncle Johnny” was the fun uncle who loved road trips, amusement parks, rock concerts, Disney, the beach, going to family reunions in Pennsylvania and taught his nieces to drive “speed.”  The kids all knew if they wanted to go anywhere “just ask Uncle Johnny,” as he was already packed!! He set an example by working hard and putting family first.  John will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his sister, Sarah Denney; brother, Robert (Maria) Swindlehurst; two nephews, John (Laura) Denney and James (Leslie) Denney; three nieces, Salli Jo (Jay) Denney, Danielle Swindlehurst and Rebecka Swindlehurst; two great-nephews, Jordan Denney and Austin Denney and one great-niece, Talia Denney.

​John's family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Absolute of Gasport for their unwavering care and support given to John.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 10th from 2-5:30 p.m. and a funeral service to follow at 5:30 p.m. with Pastor Kathleen Oridway officiating. Private interment will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.  Flowers are gratefully declined.  If desired, memorial offerings may be made to SPCA of Niagara.
