Joseph Nicholas Williams, 91, of Lewiston, NY passed away on January 7, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Harris and Mary Williams. Joe was predeceased by his wife Emilyne (Sowma) Williams.
Joe attended local schools and was a graduate of Bishop Duffy High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Joe, with his brother Harry, operated the TedRa Club, Niagara Recycling, Newco Waste, and Cecos Chemical. He was a board member of Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital, Sertoma Club, Erie-Niagara Regional Planning Board, and a 50 year member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association. He also served as the director of the Niagara Falls Convention Center and Niagara County Transportation. Joe’s parents were charter members of Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls. After its closing, Joe attended St. Mary of the Cataract Church. Joe’s home was a meeting place for good conversation, camaraderie, and a forum for political debate. Friendships continued with the Williamsville Breakfast Club meeting at the Pancake House on Saturday mornings.
Joe is survived by his brother, James “Harry” Williams of Grand Island; his sister, Martha (late Roger) Bennett of Lewiston; his brother, Francis (Marie) Williams of Tampa and his sister-in-law May (Sowma) Jowdy of Niagara Falls. He is also survived by five sons, Joseph (Laura) of Tampa, James (Kathleen) of Williamsville, Jerome of Lewiston, Jon (Heather) of Buffalo and Jeffrey (Marla) of Lewiston. Joe is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is survived by his companion Jan Wozniak.
There will be no prior visitation. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the family’s discretion. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be directed to The Emilyne S.
