Karen Marie Derr

Karen Marie Derr, of Gasport, NY, passed on August 13, 2023 at the Hospice section of the Schoellkopf Health Center in Niagara Falls, NY.  Karen was born on April 28, 1965, in Okinawa, Japan, the daughter of Albert W. Derr and Maryann (Higgins) Derr who both predeceased her. She spent the first few years of her life traveling around the world following her father as he moved from one assignment to the next as a member of the US Air Force.  Eventually the family settled in Niagara Falls, NY.  Karen has been a resident of Western NY ever since.  She graduated from LaSalle High School in the Class of 1983.  Karen loved to see the world around her and often took long walks to enjoy her surroundings.  Living in Gasport, NY for the last several years of her life, Karen was only steps away from taking walks along the Erie Canal and the beauty it has to offer.  She also enjoyed word puzzles and similar types of puzzles.      

Karen is survived by her daughter, Heather Derr-Robinson (Jonathan) Whitehead; her sister, Lori Derr (Anthony) Casilio; her nephews Christiano Casilio and Gabriello Casilio, and several uncles, aunts and cousins.  Karen's family would like to thank all those persons who provided care and support to her over the years.  Your kindness is appreciated.

Prayers of committal and interment will be held at Wheatfield Cemetery.  Friends invited.  A celebration of life will be held thereafter.
