Lucy Hinkle Life story

Lucy Elizabeth (Bredbenner) Hinkle, 90, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on May 22, 2023. She was predeceased by her sister, Carol Schmeer; brothers, Bill and Mark Bredbenner, and a grandson, Jason Bleistein.

Lucy was born in Freeland, PA, on June 4, 1932, a daughter of the late Grace (Hoffman) and A. Wilbur Bredbenner.

Lucy graduated from Freeland High School in 1950 and from the Hazleton State Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1953. Upon moving to Niagara Falls in 1967, she worked for Niagara Homemakers and Mercy Homecare. Well into her 70’s, she took care of countless people in their homes, providing personal care, both short-term and end of life. These experiences gave her great joy as helping others was a mainstay in her life.

Lucy enjoyed camping with her family as they travelled over the years from Maine to California. She enjoyed singing, gardening and being visited by her family. Being an animal lover, she enjoyed her dogs, as well as those of her family and friends. She was a staunch supporter of Veterans.

Lucy had been an active member of the Niagara Presbyterian Church, where she was one of the first elected female Deacons, a member of the Choir for decades, a member, serving in several capacities, of the Women’s Association and also as Chair of the Living Nativity for several years. She was also a member of the Niagara Lioness Club.

Lucy is survived by her sons, Rick (Jenny) and Mark (Mary); grandchildren, Commander Sergeant Major Richard E. Hinkle III (Jesslyn), Jennifer Mixon, Joe Hinkle (Heather Vogt), Stephen Hinkle (Jayme) and Ashley Petit (Jessie); 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rebecca Bredbenner and several nieces, a nephew and their families.

The family wishes to thank Hospice Buffalo, especially Kat, Becky, Jessica, Chaplain Tom and all of the other nurses who assisted in Lucy’s care. God certainly knew where to place His Angels for the past 6 weeks and we’ve been truly blessed.
