Mario DeMita passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the age of 92. Mario was born on September 12, 1928 in Lucera, Italy to Michelina (Mileto) and Emanuel DeMita. He immigrated to Niagara Falls, NY in 1949 and served in the United States Army, during the Korean War. In 1953, he was very proud to become a United States citizen. Mario married Antoinette Cumbo in 1953 at the former Lady of Lebanon Church. They were married 65 years before her passing in 2018.
Mario was employed by Levy Bros Furniture for 30 years while raising his seven children. After retiring, he moved to Clearwater, FL for twelve years, but returned to NY to be with his family, residing at the Parkway Condominiums. His greatest pride was his family, always referring to his children as his “Troops". Mario was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed spending time at the Casino.
In addition to his parents and wife, Antoinette, Mario was predeceased by his daughter, Joanne and brothers, Gaetano and his twin, Antonio. Mario is survived by his six children, Michelle DeMita, Robert DeMita, Roseanne (Rick) Ianni, Mario (Jennifer) DeMita, Jr., Annette (John) Zaroian and Mary (David)Blankenberg; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one expected great-grandchild.
There will be no prior visitation. Private services and internment, concluding with Military Honors, in St. Joseph's Cemetery, with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating, will be held with his family. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Opportunities Unlimited.
