Rachel Marie (nee Lozano) Sowicki, 51, of Lewiston, NY, passed from this life on August 31, 2022 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Born on October 31, 1970 in Sioux City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Doris (nee Menard) (Mike Owens) Lozano and the late Abel Lozano. On August 9, 2003, Rachel married her best friend and love of her life, Phillip J. Sowicki.
Rachel earned her associates degree in nursing and her bachelors degree in American Literature. Rachel was employed as a registered nurse at Mount St. Mary's Hospital up until her illness.
Rachel was an avid cat lover, even enjoyed taking care of the neighborhood cats. She had a free-loving spirit, which led her to hitchhike from South Dakota to Woodstock by herself and enjoy her favorite place, Walden’s Pond in Massachusetts. Rachel also had a great love for traveling, including trips to Paris, China, Israel, Rome and Australia. Above all, she loved her husband and children beyond measure. Rachel’s last words to Phillip were, ‘I am still so in love with you.’
In addition to mother and her beloved husband of over 19 years, Rachel is survived by her children, Averi Sowicki, Mavis Sowicki and Owen Sowicki; step-son, Phillip (Becki) Visco; grandchildren, Elijah, Griffin and Logan; siblings, Rebecca Lozano and Amy (Scott) Boyle; father and mother-in-law, Frederick and Sharon Sowicki; sister-in-laws, Christine Luff and Laurie (Michael) Essenburg and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rachel’s funeral service and life celebration was held privately with her family, with Rev. Laura Norris-Buisch officiating, at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007).
