Robert Carl Richter, 94, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on May 3, 2022. Born on April 27, 1928 in Ransom, PA, he was the son of the late Carl Richter and the late Ethel (Hunsinger) (late Americo ‘Rico’) Bonanni. On February 3, 1951, Bob married Jean Moffatt. Mrs. Richter predeceased him on June 15, 2017.
Mr. Richter came to Niagara Falls, NY as a child with his family. At the age of 17, Bob proudly enlisted in the United States Navy and served until his honorable discharge on July 17, 1946. He was employed as electrician for Hooker Chemical and the IBEW Local #237 and retired from General Motors Corporation in Tonawanda, NY.
Mr. Richter was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post #1451. Bob was one of the founding members of the Niagara County Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed hunting and cheering on the Detroit Tigers. Mr. Richter was a very avid sports fan, especially baseball. In his younger years, Bob coached little league and bowled in several leagues.
Bob is survived by children, William Richter and Linda (Wayne) Wheaton; grandchildren, Shawn Wheaton, Amanda Wheaton and Katrina Richter; a great-granddaughter, Kya Wheaton; nieces and nephews, Roberta (David) Yensan, John (Lisa) Maselli, Debbie (Joseph) Gadomski and Tammy (Jim Garrett) LeMieux and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and spouse, Bob was predeceased by his grandson, Carl Wheaton and his sister, Shirley (late Ermedo 'Ed') Maselli.
The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday, May 14th from 4-7 p.m. at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007), where Bob’s funeral service and life celebration will follow visitation, concluding with Military Honors, at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Catherine Rieley-Goddard officiating. Private interment in Acacia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Professional arrangements are under the care of the Goodlander family.
