Son of the late Glen Woodard Smith, Jr. and the late Catherine (O’Donnell) Smith; step-son of Barbara Smith; brother of Pamela Smith (Bob Zellner), Scot Smith, Leslie (Chris) Massoglia, Lori (Bryan) Melton, and Kelli (John) Kilpatrick and cousin of Art (Wanda) Kruse.
