Missing you

Knowing Mona has enriched my life in so many ways. Her example taught me that we should live each day as fully as we are able, for we are never promised tomorrow. When she had her transplant so many years ago, she was told it would give her 5 more years. That was 12, maybe 13 years ago. Mona refused to give up on life. Like the Energizer bunny, she just wouldn’t quit, even though the last few years became more of a struggle each day. Her love of family, friends, and God kept her going when most of us would have laid down and given up.

If there was baking that needed to be done for a funeral, or a bible study, or some kind of celebration, Mona baked. If the rummage sale needed setting up, Mona was there. If there was anything that needed to be done that was within her capabilities, she didn’t wait to be asked . . . she jumped right in to help. During Operation Christmas Child a few years ago, she hosted a “packing party” at her home, including dinner. We ended up packing 35 shoe boxes to send overseas!

One morning last year when her blood sugar was so high the meter couldn’t register it, she refused to go to the hospital. She was not going to miss her best friend’s wedding. And later, at the reception, when her legs were getting weak, we wheeled her around on a desk chair, and she laughed like a kid.

Mona was always thinking up new ways to serve God and her church. This past fall, she started a Saturday morning craft group to make things for the Election Day bazaar. Those Saturday mornings were filled with fun, fellowship, and food. We had already planned to start earlier this year so we could make more things. And the list goes on . . .

Mona was a woman of courage and strength with a deep love of God and family. And she had the most beautiful smile. Her passing is a loss to all of us and she will always hold a special place in my heart.

Mona will be missed dearly. Skip, Tammy and John, our deepest sympathy to you all. Justina, I know your pain all too well losing a grandmother as special as her. Keep your memories close to your heart and she will never truly be gone. I know Chase is going to miss his GiGi very much. Love to you all.

Mona was my manager at Super Duper/Jubilee Foods. What a wonderful hard working woman who was always so kind to everyone. You never would see her get upset. She always was cool, calm and collected. She was a very fair manager too and she was one of those bosses that are hard to come by nowadays. I remember she worked at the Outlets after and then we lost touch. It was then I came to understand about her health struggles. She was always devoted to her husband, kids and grandchildren. May God give the family the strength to get through this difficulty time. My prayers and condolences are with Mona's family and friends. Mona is no longer suffering and she's with Leonard again and with the good Lord as well. R.I.P Mona..until we see each other again.
