I will always remember some summer vacations at Uncle Garlen's house. He was always so funny and generous. He made sure the kids had fun with the go cart (I always looked forward to that) and the pool. He was a very special man. Louann, you and I were always close when we saw one another. It is sad that when we get older and busy, we lose touch with special family members in our lives. I am so sorry that I could not be there with you during this difficult time, but am so glad that Rhonda was able to be there for yours and your children's comfort, and to represent Garlen's family members who could not be there with you.

I am so sorry I never knew him. His father and my grandfather, Ernest, were brothers. My very deepest sympathy to the entire family, and especially to Bonnie, whom I do know. God Bless you all and give you peace.

There are many words that would describe my Uncle Garlen, loving, kind, funny, generous, etc. I will miss those calls asking if I’m on my way to visit him. I didn’t make it to see him and regret it, but I know he understood. Every time I talked to him, he always made me laugh. I was so lucky to have such a special Uncle. I love you Uncle Garlen.

My brother, Garlen, was such a caring person to everyone that I was aware of. He loved life with gusto unlike most elderly that I know. I noticed especially when I asked how he was after he had cancer surgery many years ago, he always responded that he had nothing to complain about. He even called about a week before he passed away and, as always, had nothing to complain about! To me he was a light in this dark world. He could not have been a better older brother to me. I need to consider that and learn lessons from his unselfish living.

We are praying for his daughter, children and great grandchildren as they go through this time of sorrow without him.

Uncle Garlen was a gentle soul always with laughter. A great joke teller. He had a huge heart and loved all of his family with it. Always there for a call and I will miss talking with him and hearing his soft voice. The best and truest spirit the human heart can know was my Uncle Garlen. I will always love and miss you.
