Russell Wijesiriwardena, 18, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life and into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 10, 2015, following a courageous fight against cancer, while under the care of Hospice Buffalo. Born on October 29, 1996 in Kuwait City, Kuwait, he was the son of Sriyanthie (Nathan Power) Wijesiriwardena.
Russell attended Niagara Falls High School, where he was elected captain of their volleyball team and was currently attending the State University of New York at Fredonia, where he made the Dean's list, for his first semester, all while battling cancer and receiving chemotherapy for his illness. Russell was named an Honorary Cancer Survivor and his mother an Honorary Caregiver. Russell had a close and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
In addition to his mother, Russell is survived by three siblings, Nadishani, Angelica and Daniel Wijesiriwardena; grandmother, Anne Gram and was deeply loved by Jennifer Eger-Ashley, Charlie (Kim) Ashker, Owen (Melissa) Reid, Sarita Palhan, Karan Palhan, Judy Prum, Pastor James Cassidy of Walnut Avenue Christian Church, Pastor Mike Chorey of Cross River Church and by many others.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007). Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, October 14th at 11:00 a.m. in Walnut Avenue Christian Church, 28th Street at Walnut Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Pastor James Cassidy officiating.
